"Capable of or susceptible to being wounded or hurt, as by a weapon". I know... odd starting a devotional with a dictionary description, but that is one of the core descriptions for 'Vulnerable'... not a word I liked very much in my earlier years. As I have grown, I become more and more aware just how bound I was (still am in some places) with the fear of being vulnerable. So much so, I can hide even from myself!
As you may recall, I've been saved since February of '78, which is quite some time ago. Only in the last 5+ years have I realized 'what' being vulnerable really means 'for' me. See... fear of exposing something to someone was a fear of rejection, ridicule, judgement, ostracism, even simple disapproval. But, I realized (through the Lord) that He can be trusted with my vulnerability. He is God, not the rejecting humans... I learned to not project how they treat me onto Him. Once I started caring 'less' how 'they' felt and more how He felt... much better life!
Ephesians 2:13 claims; "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ." His blood on that cross has redeemed me from the guilt, shame, and fear vulnerability forces on me. I no longer hide things from Him, nor even myself. Psalms 139:1-4 reads; "O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. (2) Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. (3) Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. (4) For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether." Adam & Eve were ashamed of their sin and tried to hide it (first, by covering themselves, then by diving into the bushes)... God already knows all about you and your 'filth', and still walks into your 'garden' to fellowship, still yearns to share His time with you, still loves you with arms wide open!
2 Corinthians 5:21 even states; "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." Learn to bare yourself before Him. Learn to trust His accepting grace. Learn to accept His guidance for your 'vulnerable pieces' and He'll either confirm them in your life (maybe you're an excellent singer or speaker) or give you strength to change them (maybe you need to quit smoking or lying). Regardless, once you learn to trust Him with your vulnerability, how and what 'others' think about you will 'not' have the same 'fear power' over you... you WILL grow closer to the Lord, but even better, more accepting of who you are, and how others are, too.
