Fresh Ain't Easy

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

Many times through the course of my life, I have done 'new things' that become such a deeper part of my life. But, they actually lose that initial 'glimmer' or excitement it had at the outset. Be it; a new vehicle, some new clothes, a different job, a new residence... they each have their own means of satisfying me, as well as exciting me. Eventually however, the newness wears off a bit and I lose the constant, or regular thinking about it, that spark of excitement when I consider it, even just the pride or joy it originally brought me... I've become somewhat ho-hum about it, and may now even consider it hum-drum. Odd to consider that it once brought me a deeper sense of joy, peace, excitement.

Our devotional today helps us reflect on our relationship with God and Jesus in a similar light. Just because we've been 'around the Lord' for a while, doesn't mean our zeal, excitement, and yearn is going to remain strong. Keeping our hearts and mind set on Him is not easy, keeping it fresh does require diligence on our part, attention to His presence in our lives. Acts 2:28 reminds us; "Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.", which is to say our joy is filled to overflowing... just by His countenance! Now, imagine how rich and full your spirit will be when you are closer to Him, and talking with Him, and walking with Him... not just looking to Him.

How'd He get so special?

Sure, what He does in and through your life makes Him special to you, experientially... but, He was ordained for much, much more... long before you. Matthew 1:21 & 23 tell us; "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (23) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

God IS with us, acknowledge Him in your life... talk, think, wait... with Him. Keeping your contact and fellowship with Him fresh, just ain't all that easy. Our bustling lives, and frankly... His intangibility... make it tough. If this was easy, more and more people would be walking with Him! Keeping it fresh ain't easy, but the quality of your life speaks volumes to those around you.

Too many times, I've heard, 'God helps those that help themselves', and that is such a deep, deep lie! It's actually a half-truth, more than a lie; He does help those... but, not those that are alread
