...But Wait!

Updated: Jul 14, 2023

The deal keeps getting better and better... those infomercials selling gadgets, gizmos, and home-item trinkets all have that one recurring theme of "...but wait" as they are working to impress you enough to make that sale. The longer you 'do' wait, the better and more unbelievable the deal does get... to the point you feel almost moronic NOT to place an order.

Today, our devotional has somewhat the same premise, though you are not being convince to accept something you would otherwise do fine in life without... the peace and fellowship of the Lord! Sure, to begin with we 'do' need some convincing, some 'pitch' as it were, and probably some 'here is how you would benefit' presentation. So, listen to this gentle reminder from Isaiah 40:31, which proclaims; "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." But wait...

Just wait, that's the call from the Lord. Once you learn to do that one thing; your strength is renewed, you fly like an eagle (notice it is not like a clumsy DoDo Bird, which couldn't actually fly anyway), run and not be weary, walk and not faint... just from waiting on and with the Lord!

Typically, one of the best times to do this is the beginning of your day, so-as to set your heart, mind, and soul in proper perspective. You can certainly do this anytime, but the key is to 'wait', to reserve AND preserve time with Him, for Him... make this waiting a priority, and yearn for His passion as the Psalmist stated in 27:4 "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple."

How?

It's kind of easy, actually, just 'think on these things'; "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.", from Philippians 4:8. As you awake in the morning and the bustle of your day before you begins to en-wrap your mind and life, think; "...but wait!"
