Subjective Perspective

Updated: Jul 14, 2023

How I view things is quite different than most people. Not at all because I am special, mostly because I am taller than most people. I can see over cubical walls without getting on my tip-toes; I can change ceiling lights without a ladder; I can even sit in the back of an auditorium and still over most of the audience. My perspective, my vantage point, the world I experience is subjective. It is unfair to be critical of anyone who needs/uses a ladder to change a ceiling lightbulb... spiritually, we do that, though.

How things 'appear to me' spiritually is not an absolute. You've heard the phrase, "One man's trash is another man's treasure", or even, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"... these help describe just how subjective our perspective is, actually. To one being, a wall can be an obstacle that requires a ladder or ramp to allow passage. To another being, it is just a street-curb, so they step over it. The reality is, it IS a curb... hard to overcome for some, just a simple step for others.

With Jesus; faith, trust, the hope of salvation and the whole eternal life 'curb' is tough for some to get past... insurmountable... in many ways, a blockade. Now, Proverbs 20:24 states; "Man's goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way?", which is to say that I really do need His perspective, His point of view, His divine guidance to ensure I see beyond the impossible, beyond the tangibly practical, beyond my subjective perspective.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 reminds us; "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; (18) While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.", and we have hope for a clear picture on our faith-walk as we wait on His leading, on His 'still small voice', and on His divine perspective.
