When God Becomes Old Hat

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

No, it doesn't happen fast for you; He gradually gets less and less time with you; less and less attention; less and less communication (except for your crisis and panic moments, huh!). Over time, He does become old hat, or... is it just that you have become lukewarm about Him, about your peace in Him, about your very salvation? Our devotional today scrutinizes our intent with the Lord, which can be best portrayed through Revelation 2:4, which states; "Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love."

See? God does allow us to 'not' remain close to Him. That's why the scripture reminds us 'draw near to Him and He'll draw near to you', which is to say we are still required to 'give ear' to the Lord in our lives. Sure, 'life' itself is sucking you dry of time, of energy, of any desire to even try keeping close with Him. The one thing you may not have really tried though, is found in Matthew 11:28, which admonishes; "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

I know, He 'can' be so hard to understand, to grasp, even to find common-ground or 'like minded' fellowship with Him. In fact, Isaiah 55:8-9 clarifies that as it states; "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. (9) For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.", and all by itself, THAT should be encouragement enough, reason enough, even guidance enough to move you to 'come unto me', as that scripture pointed out. See... who else will know your heart without you saying one word? Who else will nurture you through your weakness, fears, and woes? Who else HAS the answers, solutions, and almighty power to bring you through? None but Jesus! 1 Titus 6:15-16 declares; "Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; (16) Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.", which is to remind us that He and He alone is where our hearts, our devotion, and our yearn should be... no longer should God be old hat in your life; rather, your life can steadily grow, steadily grow deeper, steadily grow stronger. Toss the hat, bolster your faith.
