When God Can't Find You

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

Oh, He knows right where you are... He's God, after-all. But, as when Adam & Eve hid from Him, even as He entered the garden on that fateful day... He still called out, "Adam, where are you?"

Genesis 3:8-10 tells us; And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. (9) And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? (10) And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

Over the years, I've reflected back on this turn of events for humanity, and wondered why God would even 'ask', "Where are thou?"... He's God, after-all, and knows everything about us, our coming and going, even our very 'lying down' in the evening. Jesus stated in John 10:14-15; "I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. (15) As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep."

Odd that He would call out to Adam as though He didn't know where he was. He knew exactly. He called out to him as a gesture, as an ice-breaker, as it were... because God knew trouble was in the midst... God knew there was turmoil in the Garden... God knew Man had fallen, Man had disobeyed, Man had actually sinned a great, great sin (though, they really have no measure). Yet, He still came back to the Garden, He still reached out, He still inquired... not accused... He questioned... He sought reasoning.

Today?

Believe it or not, He still leaves us in charge of our Gardens. He still knows you've sinned a great sin. He still is calling out to you, asking; "Where art thou?", and yearning to fellowship with you. The difference? Take a lesson from Adam, Eve, and that sly serpent and 'own up' to your sin. Take responsibility for your actions, your part in the disobedience, your very solution of covering yourself and hiding in the bush.... afraid of Him... weary of Him... avoiding Him. Answer His calling to you... He's ready with forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 states; "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

How many times have we heard that? Someone telling us to be quiet so we can 'hear that'; like we can hear what they are hearing... or, think they are hearing. Yet, we attempt to eliminate 'other noise
